What is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional intelligence is the capacity to get optimal results from your relationships with yourself and others. EQ is a learnable skill that can be successfully developed through training. It is also essential when introducing any form of change as most change initiatives fail because they don’t take into account human dynamics. People are the drivers of strategy so we need to include emotions in business planning rather than ignoring them as strategy needs to begin and end with people.
Sales and customer service are more than 70% about relationships. Joshua Freedman, CEO of Six Seconds, sums it up when he says “the way leaders handle emotions changes the way employees feel – which affects the way they do their work. Employee’s feelings also change how customers feel – which affects their loyalty”.
The workshop will cover an introduction into EQ , the Six Seconds EQ in Action KCG Model and provide tools to enhance these competencies considered essential for success in leadership and life.
Feelings are a complex aspect of every person, so as a leader it is critical that individuals develop emotional literacy in order to gain important data about oneself and others, enabling better communication and more accurate interpretation about one’s own and others reactions.
Without the ability to recognize one’s own and others patterns, people are blind to the inner forces that drive their decisions and actions; they will be led by unconscious habits and react on autopilot rather than operating or leading from a position of clarity. Intentionality or self management is enhanced by working on the EQ competencies of Optimism, Consequential Thinking, Intrinsic motivation and Navigating emotions. The ability to navigate emotions is essential for self management and personal mastery whilst effective decision making is enhanced through applying consequential thinking.
Leaders with optimism are better able to find innovative solutions and combined with engaging intrinsic motivation gain the energy needed to move forward and become resonant leaders. Optimism and intrinsic motivation are also key competencies for sale personnel. A critical competency in building rapport, good interpersonal relationships and effective communication is Empathy.
It is a non judgmental openness to others feelings and experiences that builds connections and awareness. Empathy also underlies our moral judgment. This is a competency that we look for in Sales personnel as it shows their ability to connect with people of all walks of life and is also a vital tool for leaders.
Empathy is important in leaders to understand others and to build trusting relationships and teams.
The competencies detailed above relate back to the success factors considered essential for leadership and life namely effectiveness, health, quality of life, relationships, decision making and influence.
What Each Attendee will do
Each attendee takes an online SEI (Six Seconds EQ test). This is taken prior to the workshop. This Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence Self Assessment will give your self assessment of the 8 key competencies of EQ as well as your success barometers detailed above. From this data we also draw the brain brief profile which shows how different individuals take in data, process it and make decisions based on their particular brain style.
It also shows if they are big picture thinkers or short term and to what degree they will take a risk and innovate or whether they are highly evaluative. This is a highly effective tool for understanding individuals, team dynamics and for diffusing conflict and enhancing communication.
